The Azienda Agricola was founded in the early 1900s with the purchase of the first vineyards. The cellar was built in 1948 and originally included a distillery in use only until 1967. By the 1960s, the Piona family felt that the white wines of Custoza deserved better recognition than simply being labelled as Soave. In 1962, they were the first producers to label their white wine as “Custoza”. They also drafted its “recipe”: a blend of Fernanda, Trebbiano, Trebbianello and Garganega grapes. Their 25ha of vineyards lie behind the cantina on both northwest and southwest facing slopes cooled by the Alpine winds of Lake Garda. The wines of Bardolino are lively modern additions to Cavalchina’s portfolio of fresh, friendly wines from the patchwork of territories around Lake Garda.
