Piemontese through and through, the Malabaila family can trace their roots in Roero back as far as 1270 now owning 22ha of vineyards and producing 100,000 bottles a year. They’ve been producing Roero Arneis DOCG since 1985 bringing the wine back to the cellar as opposed to being used as distraction for birds so they wouldn’t eat the Nebbiolo crop!
A Roero Arneis that has its roots in a truly remote past. In 1478, written traces of this vine appear for the first time, which takes its name from the Renesio hill overlooking the town of Canale d’Alba, first owned by the Roero Counts, later sold together with other properties to the Malabaila Counts of Canale and by the latter separated in the 1980s to the Azienda Agricola it is today. Endlessly popular locally today as an aperitif for its floral, peachy fullness in aroma and on the palate.
The current Malabaila’s are headed up by Lucrezia Carrega Malabaila who, steeped in history, roots the names of the wines in local traditions and typicity. The ducks that appear on the back label are a common sight in the Roero, with the name Le Tre referring to the three vineyards that make up the blend for this classic.
