La Smilla’s vineyards are in Bosio, Piedmont, near the Ligurian Apennines, and they embrace the DOCG area of Gavi and the DOC area of Dolcetto di Ovada. For La Smilla, producing wine means seeing its product reborn in a new way every year. Imagination, ingenuity, enhancement of the peculiarities of each year and an ongoing commitment to improve: all the wines of La Smilla are the result of these values.
The cellar, located in the centre of the village of Bosio, is shared with Danilo Guido’s father and has maintained the characteristics of the past: the underground section of the cellar with cement vats from the 1950s continue to be a rare and distinctive environment, while the more modern section houses stainless steel tanks as well as French oak barrels for ageing their reds. New plantings abound in the area as it’s quality is recognised and the rural winding land still inexpensive.
