Cottanera

Since the mid-90s when the Cambria family first labelled wines as Cottanera they have been regarded as one of the finest producers on Etna. The vineyards, spread across 5 contrade (delimited & distinct vineyard areas) on the northern slope of Mt. Etna are planted exclusively to local varieties Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio & Carricante. It is this pursuit of tradition & territory that guides Francesco, Enzo & Mariangela Cambria in their work not only in all aspects of the winery but also in their roles past and present as presidents of the Consortium. Slow ripening of the grapes on the esteemed northern slope at altitudes hovering around 700m affords the grapes steady maturation; time enough indeed to develop deep concentration of perfume whilst maintaining the acidity the native varieties are known for.
